Design education for future wellbeing

The 14th International Conference on Engineering and Product Design Education (E&PDE2012) is hosted by the Department of Design Sciences, Product Development, Artesis University College Antwerp. The conference is a unique opportunity for educators, practitioners, researchers and student in design-related areas to meet and exchange experiences in design education and future wellbeing. The conference will be held at the Product Development building, Artesis University College, Antwerp. The university college is located in the heart of Antwerp and within walking distance of all major landmarks and attractions:the fashion and diamond district, Rubens’ house, the cathedral, MAS museum and port. Jointly organised by the Institution of Engineering Designers, the Design Education Special Interest Group of the Design Society and Artesis University College Antwerp and supported by the City of Antwerp, this educational conference for engineering and product design is an ideal networking, research and innovation forum which will help you reach your professional goals.

Deadlines

  • Submission of Abstracts (max 500 words) – 3 December 2011
    • Abstracts should be submitted via our conference management system.
    • Details of the submission process may be found here.
  • Notification of Successful Abstracts – 16 December 2011
  • Submission of Full Papers – 2 March 2012
  • Notification of Accepted Papers – 16 April 2012
  • Deadline for submission of final paper and paper summary for publication – 25 May 2012.
  • Deadline for Author Earlybird Registration – 25 May 2012
  • Conference – 6 and 7 September 2012

 

Paper Submission

General Instructions

All paper handling is done with a conference management system (CMS). The submission system will accept paper uploads at the following deadlines:

  • 2nd March 2012 – First full submission of paper.
    • Prepare your full paper using the full paper template which will be available in the downloads section and submit in Word format via the Conference Management System (CMS). Please leave out names and affiliations of the authors as well as the contact details in this version.
  • 25th May 2012 – Submission of final paper and paper summary for publication.
    • The final paper and paper summary templates will be found in the downloads section. Remember to add the author names and affiliation to the final paper. The paper summary should be no more than one page long and will be published in printed format.
    • Both the final paper and the paper summary must be uploaded separately to the CMS.
    • You must also complete and submit a copyright release form so that your paper can be included for presentation at EPDE11 and publication in the conference proceedings.  The form will be available in the download section and must be signed and submitted to the Programme Committee before May 25.  Submission can be done by post, or via fax or by email of a scanned version.

Conference Aim

The E&PDE conference will bring together representatives from education and industry who have an interest in sharing new perspectives on design education. The conference will provide a forum for educators, practitioners and students from product development, engineering and industrial design, together with industry to discuss current educational issues and the nature of design education now and in the future. This year’s conference theme is Design Education for Future Wellbeing and aims to;

  • Provide a networking platform for a wide variety of participants.
  • Explore how design education can set the scene for future wellbeing of people within society, economy, industry and the global village the world has become.
  • Discuss how engineering and product design education can lead to innovative products for an innovative world.
  • Explore how the focus on future wellbeing can contribute to the development of creativity and success.
  • Encourage innovators to provide feedback to educators with ideas and practical opportunities in order to facilitate an innovation platform future (ad)ventures.
